>>And, to add to Marcia's comment, for those of you libs who think you aren't paying enough in taxes, write the government a check! They will misspend it, if you send it!
Not sure who that is directed at, but here's what Thomas Jefferson thought about taxes for the rich:
""The rich alone use imported articles, and on these alone the whole taxes of the General Government are levied. ... Our revenues liberated by the discharge of the public debt, and its surplus applied to canals, roads, schools, etc., the farmer will see his government supported, his children educated, and the face of his country made a paradise by the contributions of the rich alone, without his being called on to spend a cent from his earnings."
If he were alive today I guess some people would call him an unpatriotic commie who should donate all his own income before trying to punish others' success. ;-)
The reality today is that the US cannot borrow forever to fund deficits like the Medicare $42T hole. If traditional partisan politics can't move on from its taunts and posturing, it's going to be too late.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
