>>>And, to add to Marcia's comment, for those of you libs who think you aren't paying enough in taxes, write the government a check! They will misspend it, if you send it!

That was also a different time, as I'm sure you are aware. The government wasn't paying people, per child to survive (but just barely). They also didn't have 45% not paying anything, while the top 5% paid most of the freight, and then companies like GE, Exxon, etc that paid no taxes. This country could be fixed easily, if we just quit giving people money for nothing, supported a family environment and cut the spending - across the board. We don't have a revenue problem, we are giving money to causes that are ridiculous like counties that hate us, or warlards in Somalia who starve the people and steal the food and money we send. I'd love to see us quit funding every other country and start dealing with our own problems. That will probably never happen though, regardless of which party is in control. As I've said many times before, there is probably a reason they refer to themselves as "parties."

>Not sure who that is directed at, but here's what Thomas Jefferson thought about taxes for the rich:

Our revenues liberated by the discharge of the public debt, and its surplus applied to canals, roads, schools, etc., the farmer will see his government supported, his children educated, and the face of his country made a paradise by the contributions of the rich alone, without his being called on to spend a cent from his earnings."
