>>>I, too, hope this kills the deal. I have T-Mobile and have no desire ever to do business with AT&T. (Long, old story, but the gist is that I called them to tell them about someone perpetrating $10K of fraud on them, and they had no interest.)

>Yep. I was quite surprised.

>>It's been a good baseball week so far for you, a lousy one from me. Phillies sweep four from the Reds, Brewers swept in a three game home series vs. the Cardinals. The Crew still look safe but this was their chance to put the Cardinals away and they didn't do it.

>Nonetheless, the Brewers' magic number is less than the Phils', since we have the Braves in our division. It'll be interesting to see whether the Phils can keep this up. Thanks to a rainy week in mid-August and Hurricane Irene, they have 33 games in 31 days to finish the season, starting this past Monday. Two day-night doubleheaders 6 days apart. But as usual, Howard's getting hot for September.

The Dave Kingman of his generation? ;-) (No, that would be Adam Dunn). I see his batting average is up to .248. Yes, he can kill you with the long ball, but way too often he strikes himself out. Tim Lincecum toyed with him in San Francisco two or three weeks ago.

Yesterday on the drive back north I had the ESPN talk show on the radio for a while. (For much more of it I listened to the "Angela's Ashes" audiotape. The part where Oliver dies was like a punch in the gut, as it is every time). Two of their commentators were debating whether wild card playoff teams are a good thing or a bad thing. One was for it. He said it gets some worthy contenders into the playoffs who are much better teams than the winners of weaker divisions. The Braves and the second place team between the Yankees and Red Sox are great examples this year. The other debater said it cheapens September when you know some teams who are second in their division are going to play in October anyway. You don't get that crucial late September showdown series between them. He said major league baseball has obviously decided October is more important than September. It's not necessarily a wrong decision but we've lost something there.
