>I was trying to rebuild index tables of VFP 9 application today (at customer site) and ran into the following problem. One of the .cdx files was locked and no matter what I and the IT person tried we could not delete this file. He looked at the server at Shared Folder file and this file was not showing. No other application had none of the .DBF or FPT files open. But every time I tried to delete this .CDX (in command prompt or from the application) I was getting "used by another process" message. Is there a way to find out what process has this .CDX file locked?

Is it REALLY Windows ME on the workstations? If so, my condolences.

1. Try restarting all workstations that may have been running the app

2. If that doesn't work, fastest fix (but can be quite inconvenient) is probably to restart the server

ProcessExplorer in its Find option might help you pinpoint the process that has a file open. But, unless the VFP program was run locally on the server console and it's what caused the problem, then likely it's a network lock caused by a workstation. You could theoretically restart, say, the Server service on the server, but that will have a similar effect (or worse) on the network than if you just restart the server.
