>In SQL Server 2000, is it possible to tell autogrow to happen during a particular period of time (after normal office hours for example) rather then when ever it wants? I'm assuming it detects the need to grow, and just does it rather than detects and schedules.

First of all, make sure when you create a SQL database you give it tons of room to grow, and if you set it to autogrow, make sure it grows A LOT so you don't have to do that except maybe once a year OR LESS.
Also make sure you run regular maintenance the shrinks the DB and truncates the logfile after backup.
SQL databases really should not have to grow very often.
You might want to turn off autogrow and just have you DBA grow it manually when needed and convenient..
