Francois, have you looked at the French company PC Soft offering WinDev? An awesome product and very like VFP. Connects to any database you could ask for and many other features. http://www.windev.com/ . If you need I can put you in contact with a development company in Lyon who are experts in this product.

>Maybe do I need to be more specific though. Specific on what I am currently looking for in Python and mores specific as well on the kind of application I am looking to build in the first place. I am not looking for a full replacement a vfp as a whole for at this stage.

>Since the current app was developped in VFP a a working prototype by a fox die-hard (since foxbase...), it makes heavy use of dbase DML and local SQL operations. These operations are all memory and/or tempfiles-based though with no signficant db persistence and I am definitely looking for a dependancy-free stuff not a multi-tier db-layer

>In order to avoid a massive and straight-up rewrite of the whole code base, what I am looking for is a replacement ceteris paribus of the vfp operations made in VFP before moving into "classier" python code. I was indeed thinking of sqllite and its memory-based sql stuff as a replacement but I do not know of their performance level and the quality of the SQL support!
