Hi Jos,
Thanks for dropping in.
>Francois, have you looked at the French company PC Soft offering WinDev?
I am quite aware of it.
>An awesome product and very like VFP. Connects to any database you could ask for and many other features.
The reputation of windev is great. I have feedback by users here. They seem to like it a lot especially the web toolset associated with this French Made development swiss knife:)
However i am sold 100% to python as a development language. As some would say, it just fits my brain. Neither C, nor Pascal, VB, perl and other ever did this way. Only smalltalk did in the past. I certainly doubt that windev would offer the kind of orthogonal grammar that python provides. This certainly does not diminish its appeal as a highly productive development tool.
The reason I stayed on the sideline on python (except for web production where I jumped on board in the late 90s with great technical succes) is the absence of "productive" support for classical win32 UI-based applications.
What I read recently on the wxpython mailing list - a new version is now clearly in the tubes with a more industrial architecture and support for python3 - has changed my POV. I want to jump onboard this ship now. I put the very specific question on code translation here since I am aware there are some vocal foxpro specialists on this boat already. Most notably John:)
