I can see the progress going from 1 to 100% and the size transforming correctly. So at one point I see 100% complete and the file in my pc folder of about 90MB. But the transfer does not stop. FileZilla continues showing bytes being send to my PC and this transfer stops when the file on my pc is about 180MB (almost exactly twice the size on FTP).

My bet is that you got the downloaded file twice, just glued over at the end. You may use a hex editor, go to the end, pick a string of, say, a dozen bytes, and search for it. If my hunch is correct, you should find them in the middle, followed by two bytes representing "PK" string (which is the signature, i.e. first two bytes of a zip).

If the first half wasn't intact, you wouldn't have been able to unzip it, or at least not completely.
