I think many aspects of Apple products are elegant. There are other things that IMO, take things too far and are over simplified. I've been reading Isaacson's bio of Steve Jobs and it's clear where the desire for simplicity came from.
I agree that it will be interesting to watch how things change at Apple.

In a number of categories they have designed products that are extremely elegant and which appeal to consumers. They have their finger on the pulse of what consumers want. (Some would say UP the pulse, LOL). Steve Jobs famously said that they don't use focus groups because we know what they want before they know it. Anyway, I am a lot less enthusiastic about Apple's "close-mindedness" and some of the business practices. It will be interesting to see if their posture changes with Jobs gone.
