I agree with you here. People complain about Norton hogging system resources, but I've seen McAfee take more, sometimes as much as 30%.

Another area of system resource hogging is Adobe products. Open a large PDF with Adobe Reader and look at the memory use. Then open the same file with FoxIt Reader. Same functionality, lots less resource usage.
