I expect MS is pushing the tablet as a way to get their OS established in the mobile market, same as Google was pushing hardware to help get Android established. It worked for Google and you don't hear much about their hardware anymore. Probably pretty much the same scenario with MS and I wish them well.

BTW, while discounting MS don't forget their keyboards, mice, etc. that are great and widely accepted. The tone of your response seems to be counting MS out and that I believe is best described as Mark Twain once said: "The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated."
