You try getting by on that much money with few marketable job skills and a family to support.
If one has few marketable skills, one has a responsibility to take steps to gain them. That is what I did at the age of 30 after I left my first husband. I went back to school, working my way through as a bartender, to earn my degree in computer science.
What you are undervaluing is that you have abilities most people don't have. Morally we can't just condemn them and chuck them over the side.
My point is that I am not so very different from anyone else. Life is what you make it.
