Hi Fred,

the ole error I am getting is this:
(ole error code 0x800a018a: Unknown ole status code)

After dragging the richtext control (ver.6) onto the form, some of the properties values are initially set to this error. I took your advice, and for now, re-installed and re-registered the old OCX from the 5.0 cd and it does not give the ole error. I am going to be switching to 6.0 within a week or two, so I'm not to concerned about using the old ocx, and after I reload 6.0 I'll start using the new (ver. 6) ocx.

The reason I'm playing with this control is for a mail merge alternative.

Here is what I would like to do:

Since my office doesn't have a standard word processor I've choosen to print my letter merge from a memo field using substitution variables and scanning the memo field and replacing the variables with field data from the record to receive a letter. After the memo field is prepared with the correct data it is printed from the report writer. All the report contains is the memo field which now contains the merged data for the form letter. The problem with this is that because all of the data is kept in the memo field, I cannot use bold, italics, fonts or and format changes...it's all vanilla. So after reading a couple of threads here and posting a few myself, I was convinced that I may be able to keep my basic ideas for merging, but instead use the RTF to communicate with the memo field so that formatting can be accomplished. I haven't even tried this yet, so what do you think...will this work? Do I have to use a third party tool to get contents printed? Is there an example out there somewhere that demonstrates the process of storing rtf to memo field and printing with the VFP report writer?

Thank you again for helping with the ole error, and if you have any information or ideas on how I might accomplish printing rtf memo through report writer please do give me a holler.

Thanks.

John.

>>>What version of VFP5 are you using? Mine is 5.0a Build 415 (SP3) and it works OK with the control from 6.
>>>
>>>If you must replace the control:
>>>
>>>Get out your VFP 5 CD and find the RICHTX32.OCX and put it in your WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder and register it with REGSVR32 RICHTX32.OCX. 5 & 6 use the same name for both.
>>>
>>>You'll have a similar thing with the calendar control. In 5 it was MSACAL70.OCX and in 6 it's MSCAL.OCX. Even though they are named different, once it is registered it's the same name. Both work in 5, though the syntax is slightly different. The syntax for using the 6 control works for the 5 control.

I'll do as you suggest and load the ocx from vfp 5.0 and register it again. I guess I should speed up my migration to 6.0...I hate this transition stuff!
