>>> “Many of the targets of bullying are kids who are either gay or are perceived as gay,” she said.
>>>But the idea that the program is intended as homosexual indoctrination is simply wrong, Ms. Costello added.

>Do the stats support the idea that many bullied kids are gay or perceived as gay? If it's true then it needs to be stated openly so parents and churches can do the right thing. If gays aren't over-represented then the Christians have a point: the promoters are using a worthy cause to disguise a different message. This has nothing to do with being gay or anti-gay: if people start using causes as an envelope to sneak other messages past the watchful eyes of parents, that devalues the worthy cause and reduces its ability to be promoted. Those responsible do need to be called to task. I'd also observe that adding somebody to a list of hate organizations because they successfully oppose your intentions, has never been associated with well-meaning people in my experience.

I'm going to have to strongly disagree with most of what you just said. First of all - yes I know (along with anyone else above the age of 10 with an IQ higher than the same) that gay/perceived gay kids get bullied. The "Christians" have NO point which actually makes any sense. The idea here was to get kids to communicate with each other and reducing bulling. Now how these bible-tumpers turn that into "it's better to hate and be intolerant" and think it actually promotes some type of Christian value is probably one of the dumbest and most hypocritical things I've seen in a long time. This group - by pulling the plug and getting parents to keep their kids home - is teaching them that ONLY THEY know what is right for EVERYONE and just simply talking and being nice to someone who is gay is some sort of immortal sin. Hey if a parent wants to teach their kids that they don't approve of being gay - then whatever. But at the same time it might be wise to actually teach a child that we live in a world with a few billion people and duh some of them just miiiight be a little different than you and DUHHHH you might want to learn how to communicate and get along with these people because someday you might have a job you like and find out your boss or coworker is gay...or that your husbands sister is gay. What ya gonna do? Teach the kid not to invite family to Christmas because they're gay? If this so-called "Christian" group wants to do something productive they shouldn't be getting kids blackballed from learning that gay kids are just as important as straight kids. Furthermore - If gays aren't over-represented or are over-represented should make no difference - point is it's an anti-bullying campaign. What if it's mostly black kids being bullied? Or the Jewish kids? Is teaching your child not to bully a Jewish kid wrong because ...hey that kid is going to HELL anyway because they're a SINNER! ahhhhh! run! everyone run! ahhh!
