>>>While this has solved the problem of getting access to the Linux filesystem, I am left with a bit of a hack in terms of sending commands back to Linux. My implementation now involves sending one or more commands in a text file, then having a shell script on the Linux side check for the file's existence, execute the script, then delete it. This is managed by a script which in turn is run as a recurring cron job. It works fine, except that there can be up to a minute delay in waiting for cron to cycle. I would like to do something a bit more direct, such as running telnet from VFP, in order to make the command execute at will. I saw nothing in Rick's wwIP tools that would facilitate this.

Jack,

if you are going to do anything networkish with Linux, unless you know the in's and out's of ARP, DNS resolution, submasking, secondary DNS, etc. already, I would highly recommend The Linux Network, Butzen & Hilton, available at Amazon. It even comes with the software you'll need: not the latest versions, but unless you need features not included, it should be adequate.
