The Supreme court has recently taken up 2 separate cases regarding gay marriage. One challenging the federal Defense of Marriage Act and one challenging the 9th Circuit's striking down California's Prop 8 which banned gay marriage in California.
I have stated before that I believe the country is moving towards acceptance of gay marriage at a very rapid pace as George Will summed up nicely this weekend

The goal should be to win hearts and minds thus you change the culture. Going to court polorizes people when decisions are rendered which overrule the will of the people.
This article makes sense and makes my case.
