I'm not sure this is true. There are many documented cases of people who were paralyzed for a time, and they still had all of their faculties, it just wasn't able to come through their bodies any longer. Stroke victims say the same things. And people who have lost limbs. They still desire to move or do the thing with the member that no longer functions, they just can't.

From a Christian understanding, the body is a vessel the spirit works through, though it is our soul that is the true essence of "us" individually. Our body is temporary, and the spirit quickens the body, but our soul is as it is, and will be that way forever, whether we have our bodies here on this Earth, or are given our eternal bodies in eternity.
