I do not like the idea of guns but they are all around us. As for the first story, it might have been better had the woman had a 44 magnum. 38’s are not that lethal. Who knows if the guy will return someday, to “get even”. A friend or relative might return and I cannot imagine how this family will react.

As for the second story, I have to agree that training means a lot in such a situation. You have to be trained how to react. There is no time to rationalize in such a situation. I do not think that the average person on the street should be armed. Maybe we all need to be trained? Better yet, we should all be civilized!

In 1965 the United States Air Force took away our Colt 45’s and replaced them with 38’s. I was never comfortable with that. The stopping power of a 38 is very limited. If your life is on the line.....

After these types of events are over people think about a lot of things - what if this or what if that? Reality can be a hard thing to live with.
