Well A makes no sense - if they broke the existing rule then the discipline of that rule is what to deal with. Of course if they do something that isn't against the rules and should be - then ya make another rule.

>Of course, you and I know that in a lot of cases here in the US the punishments are ridiculous, but doesn't it seem smarter to more stringently enforce the laws we have then to get all bureaucratic and come up with more laws that will be just as ignored as the current ones?

Riiight - but if some laws are missing that need to be there - like this crap with the gun shows - then yeah add those as well as enforce the ones ya got. This is (as I keep saying) part of the approach that has helped with the drunk driving in this country.

>I agree with your assertion yesterday that education is important. But right up there witth it IMHO is punishment. These days if someone commits a robbery with a firearm they get 2-3 years, out in 1 1/2 on good behavior, right? Now, if the punishment for the same crime, first offense, was 10 years no parole, I'm betting far fewer people would commit that crime.

Were you not the guy that was just blasting me the other day jumpin up and down saying the criminal does not care about the consequences? It's like you pick whichever logic fits your current argument - then abandon that when another argument you have doesn't fit your logic anymore. Then you complain about the $500million cost to taxpayers - but yet you want to spend all the tax dollars to lock these people up longer. You want to fill the jails with weed smokers and then get upset when the armed criminals get out so quick cause of lack of space.

Hey at least we agree on the education and awareness. And we agree on enforcing the laws we already have. Plus I think we both agree that what we have in place right now isn't working well enough.

>As with kids, the punishment needs to be so severe that the people would think, "I'm not doing that crime (breaking that law)".

>My 2 cents.
