Just a wild guess -- Access rights (for in Security as well as Sharing permissions) to individual files contained within directory aren't consistent with the directory in which the files reside (i.e. you not only have access rights to the directory, but access rights on the individual files contained within the directory -- so it's possible to grant access to the folder itself, but you might be denied access to [some] files within that directory)? Copy operation might've forced this to change because of "inherit from parent" setting?
