If there was one person in the USA with guns, he probably wouldn't stand a chance.

Keeping in mind that many in law enforcement and the military are on the side of gun rights, the government couldn't possibly round up enough (armed) paramilitary troops to enter every household and take away the people's guns.

Have a very large population of armed citizens makes it in fact an impossible option for the government to take.
