>>>One IDE will not work. Different IDEs are needed for different platforms. Trying to make one GUI work for desktop, web, mobile, and phone is misguided IMO. They are different at the core.

>>I think my first reply to you here was incorrect and I think I see your point. But that also speaks to why it is now more tempting to write apps using a browser UI. You can still make mods in the UI for phone, tablet etc where the browser might now be responsive enough, but it seems more a question of design and the stack you use than the IDE that you use for development.

>I wouldn't say missing the point. You seldom do. What I meant was I think UI layers need to be separate code because the hardware devices are so different. Please understand I am all for common code wherever possible.

That's why I think that now that rich clients are more feasable in browsers and consensus seems to be devolping on "responsive" design for UI ultimately that is the way to go

>Is it just me or is the word "stack" way too overused? Something about it sets me on edge.

I know what you mean about overused words, but that one seems the only way to describe a mish mash environment where datastore, orm, web service/api, transport technology, model/viewmodel etc , UI are all stuff with so many possibilities. Exciting but has my head spinning. Right now I am just trying to get the John Papa stuff making sense before I try to branch off into other variations

Kermit the Kamarro ! :-)

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
