This is true (RT is the future, no desktop apps, only Metro).

And here's the reason why it's true: Anybody can write a generic desktop app and install it on a computer. But with RT and Metro, you HAVE to go through Microsoft's app store to put the apps on your computer. And that way Microsoft knows what software you have installed. The only exceptions to this are sideloading for Win8 Pro, Server or Enterprise (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh852635.aspx) ... meaning regular consumers without one of these higher-end versions of Windows cannot do it.

There are no advantages for the user. This is a very bad thing being done to people.

The writing is already complete with both .NET and the future of Windows. In Windows, we are being purposefully herded into controlled pastures. With .NET we are being purposefully herded into controlled data centers for all our business processing.

The days of computer freedom are absolutely ending. I fully expect the patent portfolios of Microsoft to be employed against the free/libre/open source software communities before the end of this decade, thereby removing the last stronghold we have on copyleft protected software and the ability to run what we want, how we want, when we want ... that is ... unless we prevent it from happening.

PS - Craig has me twitted, so he will never read this unless someone quotes it in a response. However, I write this for others to consider.

PPS - Craig twitted me for writing these kind of responses to his routinely pushed Microsoft propaganda-agenda-as-being-a-good-thing posts. It is evil beyond words what is happening, what Microsoft is doing. Avoid it. Don't buy it. I wrote an article in 2007 called "Leaving Redmond, WA in 24 hours" (http://www.tgdaily.com/trendwatch-features/32967-tg-daily-special-leaving-redmond-wa-in-24-hours) which describes switching to Linux. It will take about 24 hours of learning to really understand how to navigate in Linux. It will only take a few hours to get the bulk of it, but the details will be frustrating. If any of you want to leave Windows and need help ... please email me (www.visual-freepro.org) upper-left. Am HAPPY to help pull people out of the poison Microsoft pool.
