It's not hacking so much as analyzing or learning. Understanding the steps involved in something like this makes it then almost trivial to find out what things change inside control files when manipulations are made in the various designers. Works with pretty much everything, and it it removes the need of searching through the Internet and relying upon other people's work. :-)
