Understanding the steps involved in something like this makes it then almost trivial to find out what things change inside control files when manipulations are made in the various designers. Works with pretty much everything, and it it removes the need of searching through the Internet and relying upon other people's work. :-)
Although it's quite instructive to find out things by yourself, there are other times where looking at what other people had done could save you a bit of time (as they might've found out a few things you hadn't considered yet). What had me scratching my head with the report element resize was how positioning was being handled. Consistently was getting values that seemed "off" by a specific values. Looked at work by other folks regarding similar work they'd done and discovered that positioning was also dependent on the screen elements such as the header bands that are displayed in the Report Editor. After putting in those adjustments, everything fell into place, w/o having to resort to peculiar "fudge-factors" I had arrived at manually.
