There has been grumbling for a while that wireless pollution is today's equivalent of Roman lead pipes- mighty convenient, but hurting you. True? Who can say. We were fortunate to be in a position to lay data cables during a electrical rewire so we put multiple Cat5/Cat 6 ports in every room, all hooked into gigabit POE switches. We also went for VOIP and C-Bus throughout the place. If it does turn out that EMF really is harmless, still we've enjoyed the reliability of gigabit connectivity and smart-wiring.

I take your point about pollution from others' wireless: checking briefly I can see two neighbors' routers with reception rated fair and poor, but probably the main risk comes from the closer radiating device in the PC or whatever. We've been sent radio waves from afar for generations without apparent harm but closer radiating devices are more recent. Do you have a wireless phone? If it's DECT, that thing radiates heavily the whole time unlike wireless data that is much less chatty, but the Microwave trumps all. FWIW, at my previous place we tried line of sight internet to a tower 20km away and got the company to do an EMF check. Radiation from the dish on the roof was almost undetectable but they showed what happens when the Microwave is turned on, flooding the place with massive EMF.
