>>>Tore, thanks for your reply. I, myself, have been a FoxPro developer for 15 years. I don't think that FoxPro can read barcodes from a scanner (ok to prove me wrong!) which is why I am using Visual Basic 6. If you have a way to read barcodes with Fox, give me a shout. Otherwise, let me know what your best talents are and maybe we can work together on future projects.

IS a keyboard, simple as that! Nothing fancy, no need for any third party software. Hook up the scanner, and you are done! In some cases the scanner adds a character before or after the barcode, but they are easily removed by for instance chrtran(). As a test, open Notepad, and see what you see when you try scanning, you will be surprised.

>Yep - that's how it works - it's just like sending keystrokes via any other keyboard. I have several VFP apps that use barcode scanners & I didn't have to do anything special at all. Heck I didn't even have one when I wrote the app..hahaha
Right... so did we back in 1995. Had borrowed one for a couple of days just to test it and go through its setup (as the staff at the POS wouldn't be trusted to RTFM and understand it). The only problem was that we had to leave it set to add a CR at the end of the string, so we had to code a SET CONFIRM ON in the when() and OFF in the valid().
