They'd think you're a fool to describe such a contraption (hundreds of pounds of metal, gallons and gallons of refined fuel, new technologies required for all the intricate parts, etc.). But, once you gave them one and showed them how to use it, and the infrastructure was there ...

And almost nobody realizes it because almost nobody knows how to design low-level systems from their head, with only a text editor and a C compiler, from the ground up. If more people knew this, we'd have a lot fewer Microsofts, Apples, Oracles, and even Googles out there. And we'd have a lot more feature rich software programs.

>>And almost nobody realizes it because almost nobody knows how to design low-level systems from their head, with only a text editor and a C compiler

Who needs decadent, reactionary tools like text editors and C compilers?
I keyed in my first few programs in machine language on a teletype terminal and they ran fine.
My father also started his first car with a crank. He broke his arm with it once and it was testy in cold weather, but otherwise it got him where he wanted to go.
Then some subversives came up with things like compilers, CRT's, word processors and electric starters.

Would-be crank users of the world-, unite!
You have nothing to lose but your push button starters and - now and then- the use of your arms!
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
