But you have to wonder sometimes whether prosecutors are more concerned with conviction rates than justice. A good start IMO would be not having to run for office, and the same is true of judges. We ordinary citizens are not qualified to judge them. We vote based on their party, their sex, their ethnicity, their last names. We vote not knowing much about them at all.

what do they do about compensation in the US for jury duty. If you are self employed etc.

I was once selected here in the UK but managed to get out of it. Mainly because it would have cost me a lot of money.

At the moment the daily loss of earnings compensation is £32.47 for the first 10 days and then £64.95 from day 11 to day 200.
