And cover your drip pipes with hay, actually cover all the soil with about 10cm of hay or other kind of mulch, it reduces evaporation and nothing grows through that except what you've planted (and made a hole for it).

Hey, you'll have to eat that later. You have to count on losing some of the crop to bugs, which is still less than taxes. As soon as the plant is stronger than what damage the bugs can do, the bugs usually vanish, they've done their thing (laid eggs for the next season, I guess) and are gone. And for the fruit trees, there's the classic whitewashing (krečiš stablo) the trunk.

For most of the bugs, if they really are many and persistent, we used to use (don't you love english?) nettle. Just drop a bush of nettle (kopriva!) in a bucket of water and let it so for a week, then use that as a spray. Alternately, 3% solution of dish detergent.

For Colorado potato beetle (krompirova zlatica), actually against it, we use a little portable insucker, aka vacuum cleaner, and a very long cable. Don't use any of those that run on rechargeable battery, you get about 100% chance that the battery is chinese junk, low capacity and it can't suck more than 15 minutes at a time, which sucks. Then the battery capacity quickly drops, but the charge time doesn't - you still have to charge it overnight.
