Because if I get into the habit of typing incorrectly, then I will get halfway into wrinting a formal letter before I realize I am not on a newsgroup. Since we sometimes are forced to capitalize properly, why mix styles? I don't find that capitalizing properly takes me any longer to do, because I am already conditioned to doing it.
