Then this doesn't apply to you, does it? :-) But if you look around there are countless people everywhere in need, and countless people not helping, and countless people able to help. My encouragement here is a blanket one given to all developers, and indeed all people, to go out and help instead of many of the other self-serving things that are being had today. I don't generally hear that in the world, on forums, in conversations. Yet, if more people offered up that blanket encouragement, going out and doing it themselves, inviting others, then there would be more help, there would be a greater focus on people in need, rather than on self and selfish goals.

And specifically as it relates to this topic, the sharing of source code would give all developers more time to do "real things" with their life to help real people, instead of me re-writing a sorting algorithm for this type of accounting data set, and a yearend rollover process, and 35 others, and you doing them as well, and 1500 other people doing them as well, all because each copy of these things is being hoarded.

Hoarding harms. People have needs. Our focuses need to shift away from the hoarding models of whatever, which are money-focused, and onto the helping model of giving other people the ability to go out and spend more time helping their neighbors do things.
