>In Microsoft terms, it's "desktop, laptop, tablet, phone, game console". I should have used the word "device".

Actually, even "device" is wrong. Most of the devices that you mention won't run these products. Macs are desktops and laptops. Desktops running Windows 7 or XP won't, etc., etc.

"some versions of some desktops, laptops, tablets phones , game consoles that run some versions of some Microsoft products" might be more accurate and, of course, completely meaningless because no one in his right mind will buy the required MS version of all those devices.

This is a feeble attempt by MS to persuade people to use inferior products because of the single platform Kool Aid, which, when you look closely at it, as I did, is a fiction.
IBM tried that several times and it bombed.

>>>Really? Windows phone has been rejected by the market? Me thinks you're too "USA-thinking". Have you seen the design awards? Have you seen what it's doing in Latin America (#2) and it's #1 in some countries? It's now #3 in USA (albeit some of that is attributed to Blackberry's demise). IMO, the new Nokia 1020 might be the killer device that really sells Windows Phone. Delta flight attendants will be using Windows Phone exclusively for onboard purchases.
>>>
>>>As for the design, have you seen the new iOS? Looks a lot like Windows Phone. Have you seen all the designers talking about "flat design"? That was ushered in by Windows Phone. Twitter Bootstrap 3.0 has gone to a flat design and guess what... it also resulted in it being faster.
>>>
>>>As for "why", Microsoft has said several times you'll be able to write one application that runs on all platforms. Also, touch is really hard to do properly on a Windows desktop. A finger is bigger than a mouse pointer. I'm not saying that's a right or wrong decision, only what MS stated.
>>>
>>>Have you seen the data on Windows 8 sales? I don't think Microsoft is displeased.

>>>>So why should a person have to change their habits just to get some daily work done. Whey didn't Microsoft just include a switch that would allow Win 8 to work the way Windows 7/XP worked, or the new way for people who like their computers to look like their Windows phone (which had also already been rejected by the market)? They could have done this.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
