>>It's now #3 in USA (albeit some of that is attributed to Blackberry's demise)
LOL. Did you know that most people in the USA have more than the average number of legs?
Which is just as accurate as calling WP #3, and equally misleading when you consider that Android already held >50% in most markets and now is hitting 80% of worldwide smartphone shipments. Yep, 80% as of Q2 2013. Mathematically it is impossible to catch up if they're already 10 laps ahead and capturing 80% of shipments. So WP isn't in 3rd place- the race is over with Android the winner and Apple happily ensconced as always in its own peculiar and wealthy ecosystem.
Meantime minnows can munge impressive stats via various means without making a jot of difference to the result, e.g.this is smart by MS:

"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
