The UK gov has recently announced the intention of providing Infants with free school meals:

They're pushing it as a saving for parents but, as mentioned, there's good statistical evidence that it can lead to better grades as well. Interestingly, and unexplained, is the fact that children who already get free meals still show an improvement when *all* children get them.
