Not sure I agree. IDEs today are far more productive that what we had years ago, allowing us to create better applications is less time that it would have with the editors available years ago. This added capability requires IDEs to have more code, use more memory, etc. But, IMO, it's worth it.
I'm not going to disagree that there is some bloat. For example, at my current gig, we don't use TFS. I don't need all the TFS integration in VS. It would be better if that worked like an add-in. If you need it, add it in. If not, it's not installed.
