I'm not going to disagree that there is some bloat. For example, at my current gig, we don't use TFS. I don't need all the TFS integration in VS. It would be better if that worked like an add-in. If you need it, add it in. If not, it's not installed. I'm going to make a political point here. While I love many of MS' offerings, I wish Borland were still around.
In this case, VSS isn't enough for some people, but TFS is often too much. Borland was great at producing what I often called "Goldilocks" software (not too hot, not too cold, just right). They offered cleverly-crafted solutions. It's too bad they're not around - they kept other vendors "honest" for several years.
