>>>>There's a cabin named after him at Augusta National. He stayed there when he played as President. Do you really think that he paid a greens fee?
>>>
>>>Yes, Eisenhower was a member of Augusta National.
>>>
>>>Besides, the membership (today) is rumored to be aroung $25k with a $250 monthly fee. Guest fees supposedly around $40. Not exactly upper tier as far as country club membership prices go.
>>>
>>>The cabin was built in the early 50s for him with specs provided by the Secret Service.

>>Early in my career I worked with a guy who was a die hard golfer with a 2 handicap. We were working on a project near L.A. and one weekend he went up to the Bay Area to play at Pebble Beach. The greens fees were $75, and that was in early 1980s dollars. He said I will definitely feel the $75 this month but I may never get this opportunity again. (As it turned out, he made partner at Andersen -- at the time he was staff, which his supervisor said sounded like an infection -- so I imagine now he can play anywhere he likes and not feel the sting). Afterwards he said the course kicked my butt but it was worth it.

>When I was stationed in Monterey in the middle 70's, a friend at church live at Pebble Beach and invited me as his guest onto the course. At the time, I golfed in the low 80's/high 70's..... I lost 16 balls on 1 hole.... lol....

>I shot a 116 when i stopped counting. The hardest course I've ever played in my life. Number 2 was Alicante (European tour course) in Spain in the 80's....

I played Pebble (as a vendor's guest, of course) during the late 70's.
It's the most beautiful course I've ever played. As luck would have it I had a pretty good round there - 87.

One of the most difficult is also one of the most beautiful I've ever played - Pine Valley in Clementon, NJ.

The absolute crusher for me will always be the Black Course at Bethpage.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
