With all due respect, you are absolutely wrong. One of the biggest issues with Windows 8 is that it was created by a group of arrogant people who absolutely don't care about user experience. They care about all the technical aspects (memory, processing, etc.) but not a care in the world for users. They think that they know better and they know what is good for the rest. Also they try to "emulate" Apple but do it very badly, very badly. When I bought my first apple product (not long ago) the UI was completely different than what I was used to. But Apple design was so intuitive and well thought through that it took me minutes (!!) to get used to. And no frustrating experience.
There is NOTHING in Windows 8 that is attractive from the user stand point. Just take the IE for example; it is completely changed and very un-intuitive. The only reason I want Windows 8.1 is I hope it has a setting to make it work somewhat in the Windows 7 UI.
Again, you are a very good guy and I like you; but I hate MS with all my heart <g>.

>One of the biggest issues with Windows 8 is the same issue they had with Vista. They didn't educate the user as WHY the changes are important and HOW to navigate through the changes. Here's best best tutorial I know of. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BSmmSU-UZU. Your wife's opinion is one of many and should be considered, but there are many reasons why a corporate IT environment *may* consider moving to Win8, including better management. There is also cost of ownership and licensing that needs to be considered. Cost of user training is a reason to consider not moving.

>>Craig, you are drinking a Cook Aid. If the designers of Windows 8 decided that to shutdown a computer should take more than 3 clicks (and hide it in the settings), it is the ultimate case of the arrogance or stupidity (you choose). Most people don't care about memory management; most people want to buy the computer and use it. I bought this computer for my wife (who is not a technical person but very much a professional, director level professional of a fortune 500 company. After struggling with Windows 8, she said she would suggest to her company IT NEVER upgrade to Windows 8).
