>You probably aren't far off there. I have to admit I love the Brazilians. They play with elan and their fans are more or less unhinged. I cheer first for the U.S. -- yeah, I know, what's the point -- and then Mexico, and then Brazil.

>Most of the world stops during World Cup games. The last time around I was working at a company with a lot of Mexican-American workers. The day before Mexico's first game I bumped into one of my closest coworkers, a department manager, and asked him how many he expected to show up. He said I'm hoping for 50%.

Mexico, why? :)

I was trying to find a photo or a video of Buenos Aires during a WC match with Argentina playing, and although I could not find one showing the emptiness of the streets, I found this one that shows a little, in particular all people in the in the streets watching the game from stores

[Update]Found this other link that is a nice reading about Buenos Aires and its clubs, of course nothing to do with the conversation... (second time I say this in a brief interval). I liked this part :P

Argentina is almost certainly a more passionate football nation than the neighbouring Brazil although the Brazilians would perhaps disagree. Where the commonality lies perhaps is in the passion for the club sides over the national team. Almost certainly there is a distrust of the AFA and an emotional attachment to the club rather than the nation.
