>Ignore him, he can't see outside his own box. Personally I am 59, why should I waste my time learning a new tool when my favorite tool will do the job for at least the time frame which is important for me? I don't need all the new bells and whistles.
While I am with Dragan that many of the bells and whistles are part of the emperors new clothes, at least dabbling into other languages will give you a broader picture of what you are doing with your favorite tool and probably make you a better programmer even if using only your favorite tool to earn your living. Educating yourself is not wasting your time.
Some of the data analysis stuff I am still doing today in vfp would be doable with a bit more effort with functions, ini files and setup tables, but I am glad I reuse classes now instead of function libraries. Reading stuff in Java, Python, JS helped me more to arrive at my current take on how large pieces of code should be structured according to the strengths inherent in vfp.
