I understand your position, but I like to say that I know many people (including me) who are thankful that they met someone who told them about Jesus Christ. I believe it's a lot about the way how it's done, and more often than not it's done in a way that is very rude or hypocritical.
As I understand from the Bible, you've get to talk with those who are seeking and willing to listen. It's a waste of time to talk to someone who is not interested, and while wasting his or her time the preacher gets upset and rude and that makes things even worse. Christianity is in a bad light because of this kind of practice.
