As the scientists say, "the animal is always right" meaning that giant missives are as nothing if the animal does something different. In this case, seems to me the big story is the rapidity with which a semblance of usability was restored. Which is not good news for those who want IT to be about massive projects and prolonged durations: as I noted, the days of the highly paid efficient journeyman/person judged by results may be upon us. Which is as it should be- technology is supposed to drive down cost and automate repetitive tasks, not bloat everything up and lock it in.

This was not an IT/technology issue anywhere near as much as a project management issue.

Technology alone can't drive down costs.
