In this case, seems to me the big story is the rapidity with which a semblance of usability was restored. Which is not good news for those who want IT to be about massive projects and prolonged durations: as I noted, the days of the highly paid efficient journeyman/person judged by results may be upon us. Which is as it should be- technology is supposed to drive down cost and automate repetitive tasks, not bloat everything up and lock it in.

This was not an IT/technology issue anywhere near as much as a project management issue.

Technology alone can't drive down costs.
