You might want to contact your ISP about router firmware updates - what is their policy, and what update(s) have they applied recently. Personally, I would not allow an ISP to push out firmware updates without notification. Many times updates like that destroy any custom settings you may have in the router such as port forwarding etc. Also your service will be interrupted during the firmware update process.

Right about now is the time that this month's Patch Tuesday Windows updates are being applied. So, if you've noticed that things are better today than yesterday, maybe it's because of this month's Windows updates, rather than a router update.
