Think for themselves? Ha! Exactly opposite of what a religion is about. There's a dogma, and the requirement to believe in it. You may think for yourself as long as it leads to more believing. Various religions have invented a number of words for those who thought for themselves the wrong way - heretic, apostate, renegade...
