Romans 12:3 - KJV - "3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith."

We are given to have a right amount of pride, or pride rightly, but the reference in Proverbs that the Lord hates is pride beyond that which is rightly ours (our right pride is also a gift from God, as He enables all things in our lives). It is one thing to be proud of oneself because of some accomplishment, or proud of another, or proud of one's walk with the Lord, but it is something else to say "I know how to do all of these things" without simultaneously acknowledging that the only reason you know how to do all of those things is because God gifted you those abilities, and you have walked in them.

In short, the type of pride the Lord hates is self-pride, looking to oneself more highly than one ought, and in so doing thinking that because they possess these abilities they are better than others, when in fact they are only different than others in that they have those special and unique abilities, as compared to someone else who has other unique and special abilities, all of them gifted to us by God.

If you want to understand the spirit of God, Kevin, you need to study the Bible. You're looking at things piecemeal and attempting to draw conclusions based on snippets. These will almost always be wrong because God is a very big God, and His teachings are exceedingly comprehensive. They are also spirit, which means they are not limited by the information conveyed upon the page via mere words, but they speak to born again believers in other ways which their "new spiritual eyes" allow them to see.
