>>Safe being the important adjective here IMO - either you are able to hop into a jurisdiction where it's legal or legality will take a flying leap...

>Unfortunately, there's a lot of area that has lost its low-cost (or no-cost) women's health clinic simply because it performed abortions one day a week. So finding a clinic is harder. Here in Texas, that pretty much means that anyone living west of San Antonio has an 8 - 12 hour drive one way to even get to a clinic. Team that up with the fact that many states are now requiring a 'cooling off' period between the initial visit (with it's required ultrasound) and the actual procedure (usually 2-3 days, if I'm remembering what I've read correctly), that's another trip - assuming you have the time to take off from work - so we're talking 24 - 48 hours driving, not counting time in the actual office, etc.
If such a drive once is seen as too much, IMO they are just stupid. Forcing a rigmarole with the cooling off period - no way to have your local doc make the necessary bureocratic/diagnostic steps and schedule the treatment after the cooling off period - even on the danger that some procedures will be done again at the clinic for safety measures ?
