>A son of a friend is moving to Detroit for one year (temporary job) and he (being now oversees) looked up online the auto insurance prices in Detroit. He is shocked and I am shocked. According to this article (
http://www.mlive.com/business/detroit/index.ssf/2014/02/detroit_has_highest_car_insura.html) the average price is about $10K. How could it be? Say you buy a 3-5 year old Toyota for $6-8K. Is this (upwards of $10K) you would expect to pay in auto insurance?
It really depends on where he's going to live (and his age and accident history). The areas outside of the city are much more reasonable.
