>>Regarding languages; about 4 months ago I started learning French. I love learning it but it is very complicated; the spelling of the words has very little to do with how you pronounce them. So I say, wouldn't the world be better off if everybody spoke English?!

>If everyone had spoken English we wouldn't have a language :-}

>If you're learning French have you come across the Michel Thomas CDs (search it on Amazon) ?
>Best way to get to speak the language - no emphasis on grammar or spelling.
>He makes an interesting observation : 90% of French verbs are identical to English except for pronunciation, Say the English equivalent with a French accent and the chances are it will work. But of course the most commonly used verbs and nouns are the exceptions :-{
I will check out the Michel Thomas CD; after I finish my current course. I am going through Pimsleur French 1 (finished 28 of 30 lessons). I very much like Pimsleur approach; which sounds much like what you described the MT CD. Pimsleur is all about sound; no reading; no grammar. The main thing about his (Paul Pimsleur) approach is "spaced repetition." Once I finished with French 1 I will immediately start with French 2. Then I will see if I will go to French 3 or maybe try something different.
Thank you for the recommendation.
P.S. Besides Pimsleur I also listen to some lessons on youtube in Spanish; for Spaniards who want to learn French. My Spanish is good enough that I can easily follow the lessons. Which helps to reinforce my Spanish and learn some French.
(I wish I had as much desire to learn new technical things <g>).
