The doc says she doesn't think the diabetes was caught early. And it does run in the family. My dad had it. One of my brothers has it. When I told my mom she said my grandmother and one of my aunts had it.

From what I have read a positive outlook can help. That's the approach I am taking. I am following a new diet. Many of my favorite foods are on the verboten list but there are worse things. I thought I was eating healthier with lots of fruits and vegetables. Fruits are pretty much out now. Veggies are OK. One unpleasant surprise was pasta is horrible for diabetics. I guess if I eat like a chipmunk I'll be OK.

The one you might want to keep an eye out for is an enlarged prostate. 50% of men aged 60 have it. It is also treatable but the medication is really nasty. It may be worse than the disease.
